The Foundations of our Faith

  • Jesus Christ

We believe that God has made himself known to humanity in his Son, Jesus. In Jesus, God is reconciling the world to himself. The teachings, life, death, and resurrection of Christ is at the heart of our faith. Transformation, healing, strength, and growth in holiness happen through individual and community relationship with him.

  • Scripture

The Bible is the word of God and contains all things necessary for salvation. We read from scripture every time we worship together. We support and encourage the personal study of scripture. We believe that the bible reveals a loving God who longs to heal and restore all people. We are not fundamentalists or literalists, and believe that a faithful reading of the bible is compatible with values of equality and inclusion of people regardless of gender, race, and sexual orientation.

  • Common Prayer

The heritage of the Episcopal Tradition is worship with the Book of Common Prayer. Together with all other Episcopal Churches, we worship with forms approved by the whole church or specially authorized by the bishop. We treasure beauty, poetry, and care in the words we use to worship God together as a church.

  • Sacraments

The sacraments are outward signs of the grace that God works inwardly in people’s hearts. Holy Baptism is our chief sacrament of initiation whereby we bring new members into the Body of Christ. Holy Communion is the sign of God’s continual call to us. It encourages us, strengthens us, and helps us to grow, heal, and change as Christians. The Church has other sacraments, like Confirmation, Marriage, Ordination, Unction, and Reconciliation which mark other important times in a believer’s life.

  • Service

Jesus said, “I am among you as one who serves.” (Luke 22:30). We strive to follow our Lord through acts of service to the local community and to the world through our support of organizations like Episcopal Relief and Development, Florida Resurrection House, and local food pantries.

  • Fellowship

St. Paul tells believers to “rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep” and “bear one another’s burdens.” (Romans 12:15, Galatians 6:2). We meet after Sunday worship for refreshments to hear about each other’s lives. Special concerns are made known to the clergy so he can make visits to the hospital or home in time of illness. Special church meal events happen from time to time. Most of all we grow together and encourage each other in the life of faith.
